IISD's Own Work on the Sustainable Development Goals

The globally agreed Sustainable Development Goals set an ambitious development agenda up to 2030. Here is how IISD is contributing

Our focus on the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations at a 2015 summit provide both an action plan and a global commitment to improve our lives and protect our planet. Unlike previous development goals – which were essentially guidelines – all UN member states agreed to strive to achieve the SDGs within their own countries and to use them to guide their bilateral and multilateral interactions with other countries. There are 17 SDGs with over 160 accompanying targets that aim to holistically address sustainable development over the 2016–2030 period. IISD has produced a substantial body of work which can support these efforts. This page presents our most relevant research for each goal.
